Your information
Privacy Notice
We take your privacy seriously. This notice explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and what your rights are under UK data protection law.
Last updated: 8 May 2026
Who we are
Cauda Equina Support & Advocacy UK ("we", "us", "the charity") is a patient-led organisation supporting people affected by Cauda Equina Syndrome across the United Kingdom. We are the data controller for the information you share with us through this website.
You can contact us at dazroberts@caudaequinasupport.org.uk or on 07308 260895.
What we collect
When you contact us through the site, we may collect:
- Your name and email address (and phone number, if you give it)
- The content of your message and any details you choose to share
- Basic technical information from your visit, such as IP address and browser type, kept in short-lived server logs to keep the site secure
We do not run advertising trackers, behavioural analytics, or cross-site profiling tools.
Why we use it (lawful basis)
- Consent — when you fill in a form, you're choosing to share that information with us so we can reply.
- Legitimate interest — to run the charity, respond to enquiries, and keep the site secure.
- Legal obligation — where we have to keep records (for example, safeguarding concerns).
Who we share it with
We don't sell your information. We share it only with trusted service providers who help us run the charity:
- Our hosting and database provider, who stores form submissions on our behalf
- Our email provider, when we reply to you
If we ever had to disclose information to comply with a legal request or to protect someone's safety, we would do so.
How long we keep it
We keep enquiries for up to 24 months unless you've asked us to delete them sooner, or unless we're providing ongoing support and need the history to help you properly.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to:
- Ask for a copy of the information we hold about you
- Have inaccurate information corrected
- Ask us to delete your information ("right to be forgotten")
- Restrict or object to how we use it
- Have your information transferred to another organisation
To exercise any of these, just email us. If you're not happy with how we've handled your information you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Children
This website isn't directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has shared information with us, please contact us so we can delete it.
Security and international transfers
We use reputable providers with appropriate technical and organisational safeguards. Where data is processed outside the UK or EEA, we rely on safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement.
